Grain Free Weight Control/Hairball Recipe for Cats

A Non-GMO Uristic Formula PLUS Hairball Prevention

Why Uristic?

Uristic is a word that means our cat food is optimized for long term urinary tract health. The amino acid Methionine raises the acidity of urine, which helps break down urine crystals, in turn reducing inflammation of the urinary tract.  Methionine occurs naturally in our fresh ingredients and we supplement it with DL-Methionine to reach the exact level needed for your cat's long-term health.

About our Wholesome Ingredients

Chicken Meal:
Chicken meal is highly digestible and an excellent source of amino acids and quality protein. It is also very palatable to cats.

Peas and Lentils:
These “legumes” are excellent sources of energy and protein that have a low glycemic index and do not cause blood glucose (sugar) levels to spike right after ingestion. The reason to have more than one is that a cat’s system is likely to digest a variety of these legumes more efficiently than it would if there were only one or two of them.

Pea Flour:
Pea Flour, which is milled from roasted peas, is rich in iron and calcium and also high in fiber. A high fiber content is what makes our Indoor Cat Formula an excellent solution for hairball prevention.

Sweet Potatoes:
Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of antioxidants such as beta-carotene and Vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium, calcium, and iron. They also provide natural dietary fiber and the complex carbohydrates that offer an alternative to traditional fiber choices (especially useful for pets that may have food allergies or other sensitivities).

Chicken Fat:
The highest of all animal sources in linoleic acid, chicken fat is an important element for skin and coat health. It is very palatable, high in essential fatty acids, and easily and quickly metabolized.

Egg:
As a whole food, eggs are often regarded as the perfect protein. Eggs contain a full array of minerals, including rich levels of calcium (in the yolk), all the vitamins except vitamin C, a range of high-quality saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, lecithin, and the entire range of enzymes and other longevity factors present in raw foods. Eggs are an especially good source of biotin, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, choline and sulfur.

Whitefish Meal:
Fish meal is highly palatable and an excellent source of protein, fish oils, and Omega-3 fatty acids—all critical for a healthy skin and coat, normal reproduction, proper body function, and improved kitten growth rate. Menhaden is one of the richest sources of linoleic and linolenic acids. It also contains high levels of lysine, tryptophan, valine, methionine, and tyrosine, which aid growth, neuro-transmitter function, muscle metabolism, protein synthesis, and thyroid health, respectively.

Pea Protein:
Pea protein is a concentrated protein extracted from field peas. It contains many essential amino acids and is a great source of iron and lysine. These help to support muscle growth and keep your pets immune system healthy. The majority of protein in Grandma Mae's Formulas always comes from fresh meat and/or high quality meat meals, but different types of protein contain different amino acid combinations so we include a small amount of pea protein in some of our formulas for your dog or cat's optimal health.

Tapioca:
Tapioca, which is derived from the cassava plant, provides a healthy, non-GMO and gluten free source of energy for your pet.  It is low in cholesterol and unhealthy fats and is a good source of iron and calcium.

Brewer's Yeast:
Brewer's Yeast is rich in many nutrients, including B vitamins and antioxidants, and helps to keep your pet's skin healthy and her coat shiny and itch free.

Powdered Cellulose:
Powdered Cellulose contains a great deal of fiber, and when used in smaller quantities helps to prevent the formation of hairballs.

Dried Tomato Pomace:
Dried Tomato Pomace is a mixture of tomato skins, pulp and crushed seeds which provides an excellent source of soluble fiber, an essential part of your pets diet. This helps to maintain a healthy digestive tract and form firm, healthy stools. High quality tomato pomace, like the kind used in Grandma Mae's Country Naturals, is also a good source of A and B vitamins and antioxidants.

Lecithin:
Lecithin is a a source of choline, a nutrient essential to every cell in the body as it is a main component of cell membranes in both people and pets. It also acts as a natural preservative for our food. Since preservatives are required to keep food fresh, we choose to use only natural preservatives that also provide health benefits for your pet.

DL-Methionine:
DL-Methionine is an essential amino acid that promotes urinary health in cats. It raises the acidity of the urine, which helps break down urine crystals and in turn reduces inflammation of the urinary tract. It also regulates the formation of ammonia and can aid in creating ammonia-free urine.

Calcium Carbonate:
Calcium carbonate provides calcium for bones and teeth. Calcium plays a role in nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, blood coagulation, the activation of enzyme systems, and cardiac function.

Choline Chloride:
Generally classified as a B-complex vitamin (referred to as vitamin B4 in some publications), choline influences the metabolism of carotene and vitamin A in animals. It is an essential component in ensuring proper nervous system function.

Taurine:
Cats, unlike dogs, require taurine to be added to their diets as they cannot synthesize it themselves. Taurine is essential for eye, heart, and reproductive health, and insufficient levels can lead to blindness and cardiac problems.

Yucca Schidigera Extract:
When provided in small quantities, such as in Grandma Mae’s Country Naturals, yucca schidigera extract helps boost the immune system and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Niacin:
Niacin is an essential vitamin and part of the vitamin B-complex. A lack of niacin can cause deficiency disease.

Thiamine:
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) promotes growth, stimulates brain action, safeguards the muscles that protect the heart, maintains red blood count, promotes healthy skin, and improves circulation.

Pyridoxine Hydrochloride:
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) plays an essential role in maintaining red blood cells and producing antibodies and nerve tissue.

Riboflavin:
Riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin essential for the normal release of energy from carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. It is also essential in the formation of antibodies and red blood cells.

Biotin:
Biotin promotes healthy skin and hair and is necessary for growth, digestion, and muscle function.

Vitamin A:
Vitamin A aids vision, growth, immune function, fetal development, cellular differentiation, and trans-membrane protein transfer. Vitamin A is essential for the repair of body tissues and also benefits bone formation.

Vitamin D3:
Vitamin D3 promotes the formation of bones and teeth. It also plays a role in the maintenance of healthy nerve and muscle systems.

Folic Acid:
Folic acid is needed for the processing of sugar and amino acids.

Potassium Chloride:
Potassium chloride is an excellent source of potassium and vitamin A.

Iron:
Iron aids hemoglobin and myoglobin synthesis as well as energy metabolism.

Zinc:
Zinc promotes the mineralization of bone, digestion of protein, and the conversion of calorie-containing nutrients into energy. Zinc further aids in enzyme reaction, cell replication, protein and carbohydrate metabolism, skin health, and wound healing.

Copper:
Copper is an essential trace mineral for animals.

Manganese:
Manganese is an essential trace mineral for animals.
